Mr. Canham, Glen, Randy and Dean, I was shocked and deeply saddened upon hearing of your loss. Mrs. Canham was a remarkable woman. Even though I moved from Rush City Rd when I was 18 I could never forget the impact Mrs. Canham had on the area. When my son was old enough to enjoy the Fair I began to come back so he could enjoy a part of my childhood. Mrs. Canham's importance had not lessened. To me she will always be the Matriarch of Avonmore. Her passing feels like I've lost a part of my family. I hurt knowing the deep void that will now be in your lives. Just remember that we never get over the death of a loved one....We get around it! My deepest sympathies.

Earl & family, it was with complete surprise that we heard of Jean's passing. As Dianne said to me, she is now with Dad; gradually they're getting the choir back together. Knowing her energy and passion for serving, I'm sure that our Heavenly Father has her already working on helping out at a turkey supper. To the Canham and MacGregor families: Words cannot express how shocked and sorry I am to hear tonight of Jean's passing. She has been such a cheerful, supportive friend for so many years. EVERY time that I have come home for a celebration, a funeral or even just a trip, Jean has gone out of her way to come with Christena to say "Hello". Just last month, I saw her twice in Lancaster - there just to say by her presence "I am here for you because this must be 'tough'." I wish I had known sooner so that I could be with you all for the next couple of days. Earl and family, please know that I am with you in my thoughts. Nothing I can say can ease your pain but I would like to be there anyway. Christena & John, Alpin & Sharon, Mac & Heather & families - words are completely insufficient to express how much I would like to ease your sorrow. I remember Jean with her sunny smile trying to teach me to march in high school - a hopeless task. Always cheerful - even when coming off the ladder having spent the day painting the second storey trim on our big house for my wedding, she was ready for anything. Her energy was limitless. Her smile was infectous and her love was boundless. She will be missed as a wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Dear Earl and Family, One story about Jean stands out in my memory. Following staff reducations at the Maxville Manor it became difficult for me to communicate with by father by telephone. Consequently, through Jean at a prearranged time my father would go to an unused nursing station where I could reach him by telephone. On the last telephone call he received from me, he was at the nursing station three hours before the time arranaged. Jean observed this and took my father back to his room assusring hime that she would come and get him personally so he would not miss the call. That keen observation and compassionate caring was the Jean I knew. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your sons and grandchildren. The peace of Jesus be with you all.

To Earl and all our Canham cousins and the extended MacGregor and Dunbar families: Words can't express the loss that we feel upon hearing about Jean. We regret that we are not in Canada and can't get back for the funeral. I remember when Earl brought Jean to Bedford Street in Cornwall to meet my mom and dad, (Aunt Laura and Uncle George). At this time I thought she was pretty special and has remained so for over 50 years! As Canham cousins we have all been a very close family. We have been witness to the passing of our aunts and uncles over the years leaving only Aunt Annie, the matriarch of the family. On Aunt Dorothy's passing, Jean was there to take her place. She, along with Earl became the welcoming host and hostess at "the Canham family farm" on Rush City Rd. "Come on in, how are you, will you stay for dinner?". Then there was always lots of food, laughs, storytelling and pies cut in huge pieces. Jean was like a sister to us all. We loved her dearly. She was always ready to listen and showed deepest interest in all our lives. Jean was a caring, loving, kind and vibrant individual, deeply involved with family and community happenings. She lived her life as a perfect example of a Christian believer. I guess the only problem with this was that God saw it too. He must have a special task for her to complete in Heaven to have called her Home so abruptly! Mom always had a favorite sympathy card that said," She is not dead, she is just away!". That being said we still feel the physical loss of our Jean. All we have left are the hundreds of fond memories. She will be sorely missed by all her family and the Avonmore community.
