Distant memories

I am hoping my memory of over 72 years is correct, forgive me if I am mistaken. Immediately after the war, aged 7-8, I lived for a short time in East Cowes. My "best mate" there was Frank Scott and we spent a lot of time together roaming the backwoods of E.Cowes and especially the rows of underground air raid shelters belonging to Saunders Roe, a splendid adventure park for kids which would have turned the "Health & Safety" guys white haired today. Kids at that time were pretty much free to wander where they liked, unlike nowadays. Our families were, I think, linked because my father and Frank's mother suffered the same illness, very prevalent just after the war. When I was about 9, my family moved to the West Wight and Frank and I lost touch, but I still remember when we used to scramble through barbed wire to escape the enraged watchman in charge of the shelters. So sorry to hear that Frank has died and I offer my condolences to Josie and family.
